1. About these Terms
These Terms of Service set out the terms on which you may access and use Romeo & Juliet, including our website, applications, matchmaking technology, introduction services and any related services we provide.
Romeo & Juliet is operated by Romeo & Juliet Ltd., trading as Romeo & Juliet. References in these Terms to "Romeo & Juliet", "we", "us" and "our" mean that legal entity.

By creating an account, accepting an invitation, applying to join Romeo & Juliet, purchasing a service or otherwise using Romeo & Juliet, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree to them, you should not use the service.
Certain events, paid services or other products may have additional terms that are shown to you before you purchase or use them. Where additional terms apply to a particular service, they form part of your agreement with us.
Nothing in these Terms affects any rights that you have under applicable consumer law.
2. About Romeo & Juliet
Romeo & Juliet is a private, referral-led matchmaking and introduction service. We use technology, including artificial intelligence and algorithmic compatibility assessment, to help us understand our members and identify people who may be worth introducing to one another.
The service is deliberately different from a conventional dating platform. Members do not browse an unrestricted feed of profiles. Instead, you may speak or write to Juliet during onboarding and provide information about yourself, what matters to you and the kind of relationship you are looking for. That information can then be used to assess possible introductions.
Technology assists this process, but it does not make the final introduction decision on its own. At launch, every proposed introduction is reviewed by a person before it is presented to members.
Matchmaking is inherently uncertain. We cannot promise that you will be admitted to the service, that a suitable introduction will be available, that you will receive an introduction within a particular period, that another person will accept an introduction or that an introduction will lead to a meeting or relationship.
Where you purchase a service from us, we will provide that service with reasonable care and skill as required by law.
3. Eligibility
Romeo & Juliet's matchmaking and introduction services are only available to people aged 18 or over.
You may use the service only if you are legally capable of entering into a binding agreement and are using Romeo & Juliet for genuine personal relationship purposes. The information you provide must be substantially accurate and must not deliberately mislead us or another member.
We may use reasonable measures to confirm your age, identity or eligibility. Verification can help reduce certain risks, but it does not mean that we can independently confirm every statement made by every member or guarantee that another person is safe to interact with.
We may refuse or restrict access where we reasonably believe that someone does not meet our eligibility requirements, has seriously misused the service or presents a genuine safety or integrity concern.
4. Referral and private access
Romeo & Juliet may operate through referrals, invitation codes, applications or other forms of selective access. Receiving a referral or invitation does not guarantee that you will be admitted to the service.
Where referral functionality is available, an existing member or approved community partner may be able to generate a referral code or link. We expect the person making the referral to send that code or link directly to the person they wish to invite.
If you refer someone, you should not provide us with sensitive, confidential or unnecessary information about that person. You should not sign another person up to Romeo & Juliet without their knowledge.
A referral does not mean that the referred person has agreed to receive marketing from us.
We may limit, pause or decline new memberships where reasonably necessary because of capacity, safety, service quality, eligibility or other legitimate operational considerations. We will not make decisions for unlawfully discriminatory reasons.
5. Your account
If you create a Romeo & Juliet account, you are responsible for providing accurate information and keeping it reasonably up to date. You should protect your login credentials, take reasonable steps to keep your account secure and tell us promptly if you believe somebody else has gained unauthorised access to it.
You must not create an account on behalf of another person without authority or allow another person to use your account as though it were their own.
You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless that activity results from circumstances outside your reasonable control.
6. What you tell Juliet
As part of Romeo & Juliet, you may be invited to speak or write to Juliet or complete other onboarding questions.
The conversation may cover matters such as the type of relationship you are looking for, who you wish to meet, age and geographical preferences, values, family plans, lifestyle, communication preferences, interests, attraction, religion or faith where you choose to discuss it, and any preferences or non-negotiables that matter to you.
Some questions or information may be necessary for us to provide meaningful matchmaking. Other information is optional. Where information is optional, you do not have to provide it.
If you choose not to provide information that is genuinely necessary to establish whether another member meets your stated requirements, we may not be able to use that factor in matching. In some cases, we may need to pause matching or ask you for clarification rather than make assumptions about you.
Where our systems extract sensitive or important information from what you tell Juliet, the launch design requires that information to be confirmed by you before it is used in live matching.
More information about how this information is handled is set out in our Privacy Policy.
7. Using Romeo & Juliet responsibly
You must use Romeo & Juliet lawfully, respectfully and for the purpose for which the service is intended.
You must not harass, threaten, abuse, stalk, intimidate or exploit another person. You must not impersonate somebody else, deliberately misrepresent material facts about yourself, use the service to perpetrate fraud or scams, or use information obtained through Romeo & Juliet for unsolicited commercial activity.
You must not attempt to obtain another person's private or sensitive information without their permission. You must not publicly distribute or misuse another member's photographs, profile information, communications or contact details.
You must not interfere with the security or operation of Romeo & Juliet, introduce harmful code, circumvent access controls, scrape or systematically collect information from the service, or use automated systems to access Romeo & Juliet without our permission.
You must not reverse engineer our technology except where the law gives you a right to do so, and you must not use Romeo & Juliet's systems, data or outputs to build or train a competing service without our written permission.
We may investigate suspected misuse and may temporarily restrict an account while we do so where that is reasonably necessary.
8. Your content
You may provide photographs, text, assessment answers, voice inputs, preferences, feedback and other information while using Romeo & Juliet. We refer to this collectively as "User Content".
You continue to own your User Content.
You give Romeo & Juliet a limited, non-exclusive right to host, store, reproduce, transcribe, process and analyse your User Content where this is reasonably necessary to provide and operate Romeo & Juliet. This includes understanding information you provide, assessing compatibility, identifying and reviewing possible introductions, facilitating introductions, supporting you, maintaining safety and security, dealing with complaints and complying with the law.
We may also use information to improve Romeo & Juliet where this is permitted by our Privacy Policy and applicable law.
You must have the right to provide any material that you submit to us. You must not submit content that is unlawful, fraudulent, threatening, defamatory or seriously invasive of another person's privacy.
9. The privacy of other members
Information about another member is provided to you for the private purpose of considering or pursuing an introduction.
You must treat that information appropriately. Unless the other person has agreed, you must not publicly post, redistribute, sell or otherwise exploit their photographs, profile, contact details, introduction information or private communications.
This does not prevent you from sharing information where reasonably necessary to make a genuine safety report, comply with the law or obtain confidential professional advice.
10. How matching works
Romeo & Juliet uses a combination of information provided by members, member-confirmed preferences, eligibility rules, computational methods, artificial intelligence and human judgement.
Certain requirements are considered before broader compatibility. These can include matters such as age, who each member wishes to meet, relationship structure, geographical requirements, safety restrictions and member-confirmed non-negotiables.
Where a member has identified something as a genuine hard preference, our matching system is not intended to silently disregard it merely because other information suggests that a match might otherwise appear promising.
For people who remain eligible for one another, we may assess factors such as relationship intentions, life direction, values, interaction preferences, lifestyle, practical compatibility and the likelihood that an introduction would be mutually wanted.
Where there is important uncertainty or missing information, we may ask for clarification or hold an introduction rather than guess.
Compatibility assessments and recommendations are necessarily probabilistic. They are not guarantees of attraction, interpersonal compatibility, relationship success, personal safety, honesty or future behaviour.
We do not present an internal matching score as an objective measure of a person's worth.
11. Artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence and other computational technology are used in parts of Romeo & Juliet. These tools may help transcribe or structure information, identify member-stated preferences, highlight missing information, assist with compatibility assessment, draft explanations for introductions, support moderation or perform internal quality checks.
Language models do not independently make the final decision to send an introduction. At launch, a person reviews each proposed introduction before it is presented.
AI-generated information can sometimes be incomplete or inaccurate. Romeo & Juliet should not be treated as providing medical, psychological, legal, financial or other professional advice.
The particular models and technology providers used by Romeo & Juliet may change as the service develops. Any use of personal information in connection with those systems remains subject to our Privacy Policy and applicable law.
12. Introductions
When we propose an introduction, we may show each person selected information about the other. This may include a first name, photograph, agreed profile information, general location information and an explanation of why the introduction has been suggested.
We do not intend to show another member your raw Juliet voice recording, raw transcript, private internal notes, private decline reasons, private post-date feedback or hidden internal matching information.
An introduction is an invitation, not an obligation. Either person may decline it. You must respect another person's decision not to communicate, meet or continue an interaction.
Where one person accepts first, that decision may remain private until the other person has made their own decision.
13. Safety
No dating or matchmaking service can remove all of the risks involved in meeting another person.
Romeo & Juliet cannot independently verify every statement made by every member. Unless we expressly tell you otherwise in relation to a particular feature, you should not assume that we have carried out comprehensive criminal record, employment, financial or other background checks.
You should use appropriate judgement when speaking with or meeting somebody. Take care before sharing identity or financial information, never send money merely because someone was introduced through Romeo & Juliet, and consider meeting in an appropriate public place when meeting somebody for the first time.
If you experience threatening, abusive, fraudulent or otherwise concerning behaviour connected with Romeo & Juliet, please tell us at product@romeojuliet.love.
We may take proportionate action in response to safety concerns where the matter is within our control. Nothing in these Terms removes any responsibility we have under law for our own acts or omissions.
14. Intellectual property
The Romeo & Juliet service, software, matching systems, technology, branding, designs, databases and Romeo & Juliet-created content are owned by us or our licensors.
We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the service for its intended personal purpose while your access remains valid.
You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, sell, license or commercially exploit Romeo & Juliet's intellectual property without permission except where the law permits you to do so.
Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of your User Content to us.
15. Third-party services
We use third parties to help provide Romeo & Juliet. These may include providers of cloud infrastructure, databases, authentication, voice technology, artificial intelligence, communications, analytics, verification, security and payment processing.
Where a provider processes personal data on our behalf, our use of that provider is also governed by applicable data-protection requirements and our Privacy Policy.
Some independent third-party products or services may have terms of their own.
16. Paid services
Some Romeo & Juliet services may be free and others may require payment.
If we introduce paid membership or another paid service, we will show you the material terms before you purchase. These will include the price, what the service includes, any applicable minimum period, the billing frequency, whether the service renews automatically and how you can cancel.
We will also provide any pre-contract information required by consumer law. After an online purchase, we will provide confirmation of the contract and the required information in a form that you can save for future reference.
Payments may be processed by an authorised third-party payment provider.
17. Cancellation rights
If you purchase an ongoing matchmaking or other service online as a consumer, you may have a statutory right to cancel the contract within 14 days after it is made.
Where that right applies, we will provide the required cancellation information and any model cancellation form required by law.
If you expressly ask us to start providing a service during the cancellation period and then cancel before it has been fully performed, you may be required to pay a proportionate amount for the service already provided where the law allows this.
If you expressly request full performance during the cancellation period and give the acknowledgement required by law, your cancellation right may end once the service has been fully performed.
Different rules may apply to a Romeo & Juliet event or other leisure service that takes place on a specified date or during a specified period. In those circumstances, the usual statutory 14 day cooling-off right may not apply. Any event-specific cancellation and refund terms will therefore be shown before you purchase.
Nothing in this section reduces any cancellation or refund rights that the law gives you.
18. Subscriptions and renewals
Romeo & Juliet does not currently promise a particular subscription price in these Terms.
If we introduce an automatically renewing membership, the price, billing frequency, initial term, renewal arrangements and cancellation method will be shown clearly before you subscribe.
Unless we state otherwise, cancelling an automatically renewing subscription will ordinarily prevent the next renewal and allow you to continue using the service until the end of the period already paid for.
If we change the price of a future renewal, we will provide reasonable advance notice where required and allow you to cancel before the new price takes effect.
We will update our subscription process as consumer-law requirements change.
19. Refunds
Nothing in these Terms limits any statutory right to a refund, repeat performance or price reduction.
If we end a prepaid service for operational reasons that are unrelated to a breach by you, we will provide any refund required by law. Where appropriate, this may be calculated on a reasonable pro-rata basis for the unused part of the service.
If we terminate your access because of a serious breach of these Terms, any refund entitlement will depend on the circumstances and applicable law.
20. Availability and changes to the service
We aim to make Romeo & Juliet reliable, but we cannot guarantee that every feature will always be available or free from errors.
We may temporarily restrict or suspend the service for maintenance, security, safety, technical work, legal compliance or another legitimate operational reason.
Romeo & Juliet will continue to develop, and particular features or technologies may change over time. If a material change substantially affects a paid service that you have already purchased, we will respect any cancellation or refund rights that apply.
21. Suspending or ending access
You may stop using Romeo & Juliet at any time and may request closure of your account.
We may suspend, restrict or end your access if we reasonably believe that you have materially or repeatedly breached these Terms, your conduct creates a genuine safety or security concern, your account is being used fraudulently or abusively, or we are required to do so by law.
We may also end a particular service if we decide to discontinue it.
Where circumstances allow, we will take account of the seriousness of the matter before acting and may give you an opportunity to respond. We may act immediately where that is reasonably necessary to protect another person, protect our systems, prevent fraud or comply with the law.
Ending an account does not affect rights or obligations that arose before termination.
22. What we do and do not promise
Romeo & Juliet provides matchmaking and introductions. We do not sell a guaranteed romantic outcome.
We cannot guarantee that a suitable introduction exists for every member, that you will receive an introduction within a particular period, that another member will accept or respond, that a compatibility assessment will always be accurate, or that another member's statements will always be complete or truthful.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights, including our obligation to provide paid services with reasonable care and skill.
23. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful. In particular, nothing excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or statutory consumer rights that cannot lawfully be restricted.
